We're very glad to return to the beautiful grove of Kallithea, and we're ready to rock the stage of Traverso!

Les SkartOi!

Since 2004, a group of friends were digging the sounds of the Jamaican subculture in a small basement of western Greece. SKA, Rocksteady and Reggae are the meeting place of the orchestra and through their music they express the rhythms of the 60s explosion in the way it was reflected in the small Caribbean island.

Les SkartOi! are not just occupied with the revival and reproduction of their influences, but they continue productively the tradition that was left by the greatest creators of the genre.

All the years of their musical activity Les SkartOi! have several concerts and a series of productions. Their last album called "Twenty Four Hours" (2019), it is a compilation of soulful rocksteady and powerful ska beat. They have shared many gigs with bands like Bad Manners, Thievery Corporation, Lee Perry, The Beat, Symarip, Aggrolites, Manu Chao, Dennis Bovvel and others.

The members of the band are: Drums: Drumystick Rusta-man, Bass/vocals: Alexis Machairas, Guitar/vocals: Nikos Xristodoulopoulos, Hammond/Piano: Giannis Jovolos, Guitar: Kostas Dim Trumpet: Iasonas Vakrinos Trompone: Ektoras Merkouris Alto Sax: Spyros Iatropoulos Vocals/Flute: Anastasia Velissariou

Midsummer night’s dreams: an interactive experience

How is musical improvisation and theatrical recitation related to… messenger? You will find out during the opening of the second Traverso Festival evening!

The audience of the festival along with remote Facebook visitors will send their own verses – midsummer night’s dreams, while the musicians will transform the unraveling poem into soundscapes. Beware: each medium runs out at the borders of our imagination…

The Silence of the Dying Fish - a short film by Vasilis Kekatos

Makis works in a provincial fish farm. One morning, on his way to work, he is informed that he died the day before. After some unsuccessful attempts to prove that he is alive, he accepts his condition with apathy and decides to spend his last day trying to secure the survival of his two beloved canaries.

This is the beginning of the third short film by Vasilis Kekatos, which was filmed entirely in Kefalonia with the participation of many locals during the winter of 2017-18.

Vasilis Kekatos was born in Kefalonia in 1991 and studied filmmaking at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Brunel, London. The film, a co-production of Greece and France, made its world premiere at the 71st International Film Festival of Locarno, Italy in 2018 and its American premiere at the Sundance Festival in 2019. It received the Best Film Award for South East Europe at the 41st Greek Drama Film Festival of Drama in 2018 and the 2nd Best Film and Male Performance Awards at the 24th Athens International Film Festival "Premiere Nights" in 2018.

Before this film, Vasilis had already shot "Anadromos" (2014) and "Zero Star Hotel" (2016), for which he was awarded with a scholarship at the Sundance Film Festival.

However, the big surprise came very recently, when in May 2019 Vassilis Kekatos won the Palme d'Or for Short Film at the Festival de Cannes with his film "The Distance Between Us and the Sky". Given the fact that he is the first Greek director to make such a success, his young age makes such a prize very important and promising.

In addition, Vasilis Kekatos is the founder and art director of the SeaNema Open Air Film Festival, a unique summer festival that from 2015 to 2018 turned various beaches and other lovely spots of Kefalonia into enchanting summer cinema.

Thrax Punks

What could be the relation between punk and northern Greece’s traditional music? This was the question Thrax Punks wished to explore, when Giorgos Stavridis and Vaitsis Charakopidis met in 2008 and started performing the diverse musical styles they love. During an improvisation jam session they met the guitarist Panos Ghinis, and since then they are unstoppable as they have been performing in various events (weddings, local feasts, streets, festivals, etc) around Greece. It is difficult to define their sound, as they mix and match various elements from world music. They use various traditional musical instruments in an energetic and humorous way, to drive audiences in a joyous feast and nobody can stand still when Thrax Punks are on stage!

Thrax Punks composed the soundtrack for the short film “Go for Broke” by Marinos Sklavounakis, which will be shown earlier in the Festival.

If you wish to learn more about Thrax Punks, you may visit their site, their facebook pagesoundcloud,  bandcamp κand follow their youtube chanel.

Sunday 21 July

Self-organized Traditional Feast

Some of Kefalonia's best musicians will be joining in. We’ll have violin, guitar, bouzouki, baglama, mandolin, oud, piano as well as other traditional and non, instruments. However, the more the merrier! So, bring your own instrument to the fair, and let’s become a great big music company!

The Sunday buffet will be on a voluntary basis, which means that we all bring tasty food and exchange the flavors! Finger food is served easier so it is preferable. Home-made patties, potato dishes, crunchy croquettes, personal favorites, cool salads - everything that is made with fresh garden products is more than welcome!

Other events

During the festival, the following will also take place:

NO OIL Movement

Members of the Open Assembly of Kefalonia & Ithaca against oil drilling in the Ionian Sea, a group which Traverso wholeheartedly supports, will be at the festival to inform visitors about the hazards of oil-drilling, the actions taken so far as well as future actions.

For more info about the Open Assembly please visit its facebook page and youtube chanel. For detailed info, please visit Save Greek Seas.

Healing Chair-massage

Ten-minute free chair-massage sessions for our visitors by the certified experienced healer Constantinos Stavrianos. As Constantinos himself says: “Massage is my passion and love! My main focus is to help people by offering them my healing services. I have been working as a massage therapist in high standard facilities and spa hotels since 2008 in Athens, Anafi, Santorini and now in my home island Kefalonia, always with love and care for the recipient. It will be a pleasure to treat you for free with ten minutes sessions of chair massage at Traverso festival.”
